had the desire to make a sister book to Good Clutter discussing issues of minimalist design that I felt I hadn’t really addressed in full.
In Negative Space, I discussed the issues of the history of modernist design and its history. One of the major points in the book was the concept of negative space being a harvested surface. Instead of being a beginning raw material, I understand negative space as refined product of its own and its creation often has real costs, both physically and culturally.
Content Warning: Contains snippets of Racist Design writing from the early 20th century in an attempt to point out foundational issues within Modernist Design Languages.
